20 free 1980s vintage photo AI prompts, written separately for India and Bangladesh

The 1980s photo trend is everywhere, and most of the prompts being passed around are the same handful of English sentences with a country's name dropped into them. They produce a picture that is almost right and unmistakably wrong to anybody who lived there.

What follows is ten scenes, each written twice. The scene survives the border. Almost nothing else does.

Why one wording will not do for both

A railway platform is a railway platform, so it is tempting to write it once. Then you look at what is actually in the frame. The coaches are Indian Railways or Bangladesh Railway and they do not look alike. The signage is Hindi or Bangla. The clothes are a salwar suit or a salwar kameez, a kurta or a panjabi. Ask for a hill station and India gives you pine and a mountain road; Bangladesh gives you Rangamati, Bandarban or Sylhet, which is a different landscape entirely.

A model will happily generate any of it. It will also happily generate the wrong one, and the result is the specific kind of failure nobody can quite name — the picture looks like a stock photo of somewhere else with your face on it.

Before you copy anything
