About the Image Color Picker

Open an image and point at any part of it to read the exact color underneath in HEX, RGB and HSL; click to keep it. The tool also finds the image's main colors automatically, and where your browser supports it you can pick a color from anywhere on your screen. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

Questions

How is the palette found?

By grouping similar pixels on a smaller copy of the image (k-means clustering) and ranking the groups by size. Near-white, near-black and grey pixels are set aside first, because most images sit on them and they would crowd out the colors that matter.

Can I pick a color without a mouse?

Yes. Focus the image and move the crosshair with the arrow keys — hold Shift to move ten pixels at a time — then press Enter to keep the color.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The images are processed in this browser tab, using WebAssembly builds of the same open-source encoders Google's Squoosh uses. They never reach KuponGuru's servers, and closing the tab discards them.
