About the PDF Compressor

There are two honest ways to make a PDF smaller, and the tool offers both with the trade-off stated. Lossless repacks the file and keeps every word selectable, but usually saves little. Strong turns each page into a compressed image, which shrinks scans and photo-heavy files a great deal — and means the text can no longer be selected or searched.

How to use it

  1. 1Drop in the PDF.
  2. 2Choose Lossless, or Strong with a quality level.
  3. 3Compress, compare the before and after sizes, and download — or keep your original if it did not get smaller.

Questions

Why did lossless compression barely change the size?

Most of a PDF's weight is images and embedded fonts, which lossless mode does not re-encode. It helps most with files that have been edited many times or saved without compressed structures.

When should I use Strong?

For scanned documents and PDFs that are mostly photos, where there is no real text to lose. Avoid it for contracts, reports and anything someone may need to search or copy from.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and changed in this browser tab using pdf.js and pdf-lib, open-source libraries that run on your device. It never reaches KuponGuru's servers, and closing the tab discards it.
