About the UTM Link Builder

Tag a link so Google Analytics can tell you which post, email or ad brought each visitor. Enter the page address, pick a preset or type the source, medium and campaign, add any of the other GA4 campaign parameters, and copy the tagged link. Existing query parameters and anchors in the address are kept.

How to use it

  1. 1Enter the page address.
  2. 2Pick a preset or fill in source, medium and campaign.
  3. 3Copy the tagged link and use it in your post, email or ad.

Questions

Which UTM parameters are required?

Google Analytics asks for utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign on every tagged link. utm_id, utm_term, utm_content, utm_source_platform, utm_creative_format and utm_marketing_tactic are optional.

Why make the values lowercase?

Google Analytics treats values as case-sensitive, so "Facebook" and "facebook" appear as two sources. Keeping everything lowercase keeps reports together.

Should I tag links on my own website?

No. Use UTM tags on links that bring people to your site from elsewhere. Tagging internal links starts a new session and overwrites where the visitor really came from.
