About the Image Metadata Viewer

Photos carry more than pixels: the phone or camera that took them, the exact time, the exposure settings and often the GPS coordinates of where you were standing. Open a photo to see all of it in plain language, with a clear warning when something personal is in there, and download a clean copy with one click.

How to use it

  1. 1Drop in a photo — JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF and AVIF can all be read.
  2. 2Read the summary, and the warning if the file reveals a location, a name or a serial number.
  3. 3Press Remove metadata & download for a copy that contains only the picture.

Questions

Why does my photo contain a location?

Phones save GPS coordinates in each photo when the camera app is allowed to use location. Anyone who receives the original file can read them.

Do apps remove this when I share a photo?

Some large social networks strip it from uploads, but email attachments, cloud-storage links and many messaging apps pass the original file on unchanged. Removing it yourself is the only way to be sure.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The images are processed in this browser tab, using WebAssembly builds of the same open-source encoders Google's Squoosh uses. They never reach KuponGuru's servers, and closing the tab discards them.
